Third Saturday Raised Bed Course A Great Success!

The Third Saturday Course on Raised Beds gave each participant insight into the basics of building a bed through harvest with lots of info in-between.  Enhancing gardening skills with lessons on materials to use, soil prep, plant varieties, pest management, moisture control and of course " harvesting the fruits of labor",  the course was a journey through raised bed gardening at a more in depth level.  Garden lovers and Master Gardeners from Rhea and Bradley counties participated in the classes led by Thomas Greenlee, Jerry Lamb and Anna Johnson.  The course was

July Master Gardener Meeting at the new pavilion! July 16 at 7 PM

Our July meeting will be held at the Master Gardener Pavilion at the AG Center.  We will be having a cookout with the entree and drinks provided by the Master Gardener Association.  Please bring a side dish and a dessert.  Winter Gardening in Tennessee will be the MG exhibit at the fair this year.  We will be needing volunteers to work the fair and help with the planning and execution of our presentation.  We will finalize these details on Thursday.  For more complete information please see the July newsletter.

Raised Bed Project Update

Master Gardener Building Project Work Days April 21 - 24, 2015

Tuesday April 21 thru Friday April 24 volunteers are needed to help with the framing of the Master Gardner Pavilion. Work day to begin at 9 am each day with a break for lunch and the finish of the project around noon on Friday.   The raised beds are all in place with the exception of the masonry bed which will hopefully be completed during the above work days.  The raised beds composition, location, recipe for soil and amendments and plants were the topic of discussion for the first 3rd Saturday Course held on April 18. 

Master Gardener and Intern Work Days

Thomas Greenlee will be at the AG Center on Tuesday April 7, Wednesday April 8 and Thursday April 9 to begin building the raised beds for the Master Gardener project and the new 3rd Saturday Short Course.

Earth Day 2015 Volunteers Needed

Earth Day is an Educational Event for Rhea County and Dayton City Schools that give Master Gardeners and Interns an opportunity to gain service hours in the community.

Home and Garden Short Course

Exciting news for Master Gardeners, Interns and the general public with the addition of : THIRD SATURDAY HOME AND GARDEN SHORT COURSE being held on April 18, May 16, June 20 and July 18, 2015.  The topic of study will be "Raised Bed Gardening, Conventional and Organic".  The course will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Rhea County Ag Center and Fairgrounds in Evensville, Tennessee.  (334 Eagle Lane)
